By 1911, Henry Ford had purchased over 2,000 acres of heavily forested land
along the north branch of the River Rouge in Dearborn Town-ship, about
12 miles west of down-town Detroit. OriginallY, Ford used the land as
a wildlife reserve and as an escape whenever he wanted to enoy a taste
of country life. In 1913, Henry and Clara decided to build a new residence
in this tract of land near the scenes of their childhood and early married
life. Henry Ford is pictured here on the banks of the Rouge durlng the
com- Pletion of the new residence known as Fair Lane. |
